USF Poly offers ROBOTC training
September 16, 2009
Lakeland, Fla.
Students prepare programmable robots for competition at the 2009 USF Poly Robo Battle.

The University of South Florida Polytechnic's Extended University is offering three ROBOTC training sessions.  ROBOTC is a C-based programming language that students use to program robots for competition.

Beginning ROBOTC Training, Sept. 26, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., will introduce the beginning programmer to ROBOTC programming language syntax and structure.  Individuals will learn fundamental reasoning and logic skills needed to develop programs through hands-on exercises and basic program development with such topics as pseudo code, flow charting, and reserved words.  Individuals will also learn how to build a basic Lego robot, how to write and debug simple programs, and how to download and run programs.

Intermediate ROBOTC Training, Oct. 10, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., will permit programmers with some experience to improve their programming capabilities by creating more complicated ROBOTC programs and Lego robots that use advanced commands and strategies, such as motor synchronization, closed loop control and PID speed control.

Advanced ROBOTC Training, Oct. 17, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., will have the experienced programmer developing programs to navigate several challenging playing fields. The individual will master the use of advance commands and techniques such as sensors, loops and conditional statements, threshold values, and value storage.  The course will also discuss how robot design and programming interact with each other to produce an effective robot.

Cost: $25.00 per participant per session. (If you register for all three classes, you will receive 10 percent off the second and third courses.) Refreshments will be provided. Please contact us for group rates, for groups of five or more. All classes take place in the Lakeland Technology Building, Room LTB 2153, at USF Polytechnic, 3433 Winter Lake Rd., Lakeland.
