Rashad Woods selected USF Polytechnic because of its reputation and location - even though he'll need to take some classes in Tampa.

"I chose USF Polytechnic because I have heard great things about it from my peers and because it is close to home," he says.

Rashad is working toward a bachelor's degree in finance. Because USF Polytechnic does not yet offer that major, he'll have to take some of his courses at USF Tampa. Still, he plans to stay at USFP as long as possible.

"USF Polytechnic has lived up to my expectations," he says. "The teachers and faculty are knowledgeable in their subjects and assist me with anything I need."

His favorite teacher is marketing instructor Carol Osborne.

"I love her style and sense of humor," he explains. "Her class brings enjoyment with knowledge, which retains students' attention through the entire class. It is a pleasure to go to her class, and you can immediately apply what you learn to your life today. She is a teacher I will never forget because she has made a difference in my life."

After he graduates, Rashad plans to continue his studies and earn an MBA. He also wants to become a Chartered Financial Analyst to increase his value as a financial graduate.

"In my career, I want to start working at a bank as a commercial loan officer or an advisor," he says. "After I gain experience, I want to open up my own office for financial planning and advising. My objective is to educate people on the value of money. Through advising and counseling, I hope to help each person make wise financial decisions to have an abundant life and a secure future. "

Rashad has no doubt he'll achieve his goals, thanks in part to his academic experience.

"USF Polytechnic has helped me prepare to achieve my goals by providing me with a great education. All of my teachers have been a great asset in my life by providing mentorship, guidance, knowledge, understanding, and by sharing real-life experiences with me to help me excel in the real world."

According to Rashad, taking part in student activities is also an important part of the USFP experience. "The campus activity I most enjoy is going to SGA every Tuesday, being greeted by singing guitar players while enjoying the free food. In addition, I love going to the Diversity Office and mingling with friends in the Multicultural Leadership Program."

What advice would he give to students considering USF Polytechnic? "Work hard and you will succeed," he says. "Also get involved by joining organizations, communicating with peers and teachers, and networking as much as possible. This is how to maximize your time at USF Polytechnic."
