About Me

My favorite memory from my undergraduate experience is...
I was student body president of my university (The University of Idaho).

How many years did you work in the field in which you teach?
I worked 15 years in marketing and sales. I was an executive of a NBC television affiliate. I was also the marketing director for a venture capital company and for an advertising agency.

When did you start at USF Polytechnic?
I've been here since August 2003.

When did you begin teaching?
I began teaching in 1998.

What I like most about the students at USF Polytechnic...
They don't take opportunities lightly because they understand how to pull themselves up by their boot straps.

My Profile

A leader in teaching and research, Dr. Andy Artis received the Outstanding Faculty Award for Fall 2007. Presented by the USF Polytechnic Student Government Association, the award is the highest campus-level honor for faculty members.

When nominating Dr. Artis for the award, students praised his dedication to education and his importance in their lives. In the classroom, he is an advocate of self-directed learning, which helps students reflect on and adapt to today's rapidly changing world. Passionate and understanding, he demands hard work from students.

"I realize that students think they have received something of real value when they complete one of my courses," says Artis, "but I truly come out ahead because teaching these students is like drinking from the fountain of youth: It keeps you forever young."

Artis believes, "The best student in the room has to be the teacher, and the best teacher needs to be the student." He coaches students to develop autonomous learning and values what each student brings to the learning environment.

An assistant professor of marketing in the Division of Business, Artis received his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee and joined the USF Polytechnic faculty in 2003. A native of Idaho, he enjoyed a successful career in marketing and sales before he started teaching.
